We are holding a service to commemorate the life of our friend Philip Fox, who died last year. As many of us could not get up to Scarborough for the funeral, the family thought it would be good to remember Philip on what would have been his 80th birthday.

The details are:

Friday, 10th July 2015 at 3 pm.
At Emmanuel Baptist church, Hounslow.

There will be a short service of commemoration, followed by refreshments and a time to reminisce.

If you are able to come, an RSVP would be useful (but not essential), to give us an idea of numbers for catering.

If you can’t come, but have some memories of Philip to share, do get in touch and we’ll share as much as we can on the day.

We were greatly saddened, on the 6th September, to learn that our dear friend Philip Fox had passed away. Philip was a valued member of Emmanuel’s family throughout his lifetime, taking on the secretaryship in 1969 following the death of his father who had been secretary before him. His faith was not something he “put-on” as part of his Sunday best – for Philip, Jesus was the leading light in his life and he radiated back that energy in all that he did. From his work life to his tenure as Boys’ Brigade Captain (7th Hounslow) and his preaching & leading of Sunday School to his joyous involvement in his local choirs, Philip made it clear to all around the wonders and, yes, hardships of being a Christian. He was a constant inspiration to all of us who were blessed to know him and he will be greatly missed.

Dear Emmanuel Bap. Family, I’ve been intending to write to you since my visit with you this past July. Please forgive the delay. You were so warm and welcoming even allowing me to play the piano for your services. Today is Thanksgiving over here. I’m thankful to have met you and know that you are there in your fellowship ministering in the name of our Savior. Love and prayers, Lynda Mayes

Great to hear from you Lynda! It was a joy to have you visit with us this Summer and we were so delighted that you agreed to play for us: the energy you infused the music with was uplifting and we all felt blessed to have shared that time with you. We hope that you had a good Thanksgiving and are looking forward to Christmas. With all God’s Blessings, Hannah on behalf of the Emmanuel Fellowship.

Dear Everybody, having met the sister of my dear friend Arlene Cottee this morning unexpectedly and after many years, I was prompted to see if my old Church in Hounslow where I was brought up had a website – and sure enough it has! It must be 50 years since Arlene and I attended Sunday School there, sadly Arlene died 10 years ago. It’s good to see it is still thriving. I was sad that Philip Fox has passed away and wonder what happened to his wife Valerie. Best wishes for your future success. Christine Benjafield. 24 January 2015

      Dear Christine,
How lovely of you to get in touch. It is really nice to hear from old friends – one of the reasons we set up our website was to be able to engage with our wider community, including those with whom we may have lost contact over the years.
Sadly, Valerie died about ten years ago, just before they were due to ‘retire’ down to Lightwater. Philip then moved to Scarborough a few years ago, to be nearer to his daughter. Both sadly missed.
Thank you again for getting in touch, do come and see us if you’re ever in the area on a Sunday morning.
      God Bless.
      Hannah Crabtree.
