This Week:

Tuesday 21st and Wednesday 22nd February -

Shrove Tuesday is, of course, when we get to fill ourselves with pancakes! It is good to remember, though, that the reason behind this was traditionally to use up all fat in the store cupboard in preparation for a time of fasting and reflection, beginning on Ash Wednesday. This period is Lent and is intended to give Christians a new sense of perspective in anticipation of our most joyous celebration – Easter. Whether or not you intend to give anything up over Lent, we hope you enjoy the pancakes and are able to use the next few weeks to best prepare you for the culmination of our religious calendar.

We were scheduled to have Neil Johns with us this Sunday, but unfortunately he is unable to attend. We send our thoughts to him as he deals with some health issues. When he knew he wasn’t going to be able to come, Neil very kindly arranged for Geoff to come and lead the service for us. So, many thanks to Neil for sorting this out for us, and to Geoff for agreeing to preach in his place this week.

I would like to apologise for the lack of posting, even of Service Notices lately. The last few months have been difficult, and the last few weeks especially so, but the hope is that normal service will be resumed imminently.

In the case that there is no Service Notice on any given week, I would like to point you to our About Us page, which is designed to have the most up-to-date information regarding our standard service times and formats.

If you require any information which you cannot find on the site, our email address can be found on the Find/Contact Us page, and we will get back to you as soon as we can – I try never to leave it more than 3 days before answering messages if I can help it.

Advance Notice

The first church meeting of 2012 is fast approaching. Please keep Wednesday 18th January clear in your diaries. There are a number of things to discuss, not least the future of our evening services. Even if you cannot attend, please give this issue some prayerful consideration as any decision is likely to really shape the way we worship here at Emmanuel in the future.

After a few days off for Christmas, I would like to wish everyone a very Happy New Year. It was really lovely to welcome Precious Gift into God’s family with a dedication on New Year’s Day, and I really hope that this celebratory tone is set in for the year ahead.

There are a few decisions to be made this year by the church leadership, and I hope you will join me in praying for that process and the people involved.

We are fast approaching the end of Advent, and with it comes our Carol Service and Christmas celebrations. Next Friday, December 16th is the day that the church is due to be decorated. We will be starting at 7.30pm and any help would be appreciated.
