"A time to tear down and a time to build…"

Emmanuel’s website is about 18 months old, and we are looking for ways to improve the experience for any readers. So, we’re planning some updates and revisions – and now we’re into the ‘consultation phase’ of the work. It would be fantastic for us to be able to incorporate some ideas from you into this project. Please let us know what comments/suggestions you have, either on what we’ve accomplished so far, or where you think we can from here. In the mean time, here are some of the things that we’re currently working on, and some of the points where we need your help:

Main weekly updates:

Currently, our Service Details… page is being updated weekly (as often as possible) with details of service times and speakers. This page is also where we post any additional notices, or advance warnings of special dates for your diaries. As such, it’s probably going to be your first port of call for most of your visits, and it’s important to us that it does its job properly. Does it provide adequate information, or would you like to see more content posted? Also, we have begun to transfer our update day from Thursday to Monday/Tuesday – does this slightly earlier notice make a difference? This is an area that we really do need feedback on, as we can’t provide the service you want if we don’t know what that is!

History in the making…

The web-based history of Emmanuel is now well underway and fast approaching the present day! We’d love to know what people think of this project, and would be particularly interested to hear from anybody who can help us flesh this out with extra information (and/or pictures). So, do head on over to our history page and send us your comments in whichever way suits you best:

Additional Pages/Content:

Last year Emmanuel celebrated its centenary and we are hoping to provide a space for people to share memories/anecdotes both from the various events which we held throughout the year and from their time at the church throughout the years. We have set up a page on which we will be mentioning the celebrations, but it would mean so much more to have some personal input from members of the congregation, past and present, who are what has made the church the place that it is today – the church would not have lasted 100 years without the people, and probably neither will the website. Your input needn’t be long, a sentence or two about what being at Emmanuel has meant to you.

We also have a photo space which is looking quite bare and would really benefit from some fresh pictures.

A page where people can share passages, prayers, songs or stories (or such like) which mean something special to them has also been proposed, but this, being something almost entirely dependent on external input is one of our most tenuous ideas. We really feel that sharing something like this could be a very beneficial community project, but before we could push ahead with it, we’d need to know that there would be a positive response from you lovely people.

Why Should I Care?
It’s all about you:

None of these ideas are in an immediate rush to be implemented, so please do take some time to think about them (and any ideas of your own), and let us know what you really think. And if you don’t like one (or more) or the suggestions, tell us: any feedback is good feedback and nothing is set in stone – it’s your website, and if enough of you don’t like something, then it doesn’t have to be here. On the other hand, if you don’t tell us, we won’t know, so it’s important to let us know what you’re thinking, in any medium you’re comfortable with.

Getting in touch:

There are so many ways you can get in touch with us that you really don’t have to be a computer whiz-kid to become involved (we’re definitely not!): the church has it’s own email address which can be found on the Find/Contact Us page; you can comment directly on the website; you can collar any of the Crabtree family after a Sunday service or you can even get in touch through the wonder that is Royal Mail (speak to Alan for details of appropriate postal addresses). New Contact Method! We have now installed a Comments Box at the back of the church where you can “post” your suggestions or comments.

Praise to the Lord for Emmanuel’s first 100 years, and here’s to the next 100 – this time in the physical and cyberspace worlds!

We look forward to hearing from you.

God Bless,

HannaH

I have just found the Christian Aid website and it includes some interesting thoughts about the forthcoming time of lent:
